The Invisalign Procedure
01
Smile Assessment
Dr. Holt will begin with a detailed assessment using X-rays and 3D scans to evaluate if Invisalign is suitable for you. He will identify any issues, such as cavities or gum infections, that need treatment before starting.
02
Treatment Plan
After the scans, we will use a digital model to map your treatment. You’ll preview your expected results, learn how many aligners are needed, what they will cost (Invisalign and preparation treatments), and explore payment options like insurance, HSA/FSA funds, or monthly plans.
03
Preparing Your Teeth
Before aligners are installed, we will ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. We may perform fillings, scaling, and polishing to remove tartar and address gum infections with medication if necessary.
04
Digital Impressions
With your teeth ready, a digital impression will be sent to Invisalign labs. It takes one-two weeks for the custom aligners to be made and shipped to our office.
05
Your First Aligners
Dr. Holt will fit your first aligners, ensuring a comfortable fit. He may apply composite buttons (clear, painless attachments) to help the aligners stay in place. You’ll receive multiple aligner sets with instructions on when to switch them and how to care for them. Though you’ll switch aligners at home every 1-2 weeks, we will schedule your monthly visits to track progress and address any concerns.
06
Retainers
Once treatment is complete, we will provide you with removable retainers to maintain your results. Dr. Holt recommends full-time retainer use for the first few months, transitioning to nightly wear, and eventually just a few nights per week.
Living With Invisalign
Living with Invisalign is easy! Just remember to take your aligners out when eating or drinking anything but water, and give them a quick rinse with lukewarm water and antibacterial soap to keep them clean.
Brushing and flossing after every meal may feel like extra effort, but many people find their teeth end up whiter and healthier because of it.
At first you may feel odd, but that just means your smile’s improving! Keep those aligners in, practice good hygiene, and before you know it, you'll be comfortable and on your way to a great smile.
